Foundation Housing

These 30 units for Foundation Housing were designed as key worker housing to address the large rental discrepancy between public housing and the private sector. Engawa completed the design concept with Foundation Housing and then Engawa engaged RBA to work in association for the main commission. Outdoor living is a way of life in Broome. With the higher density of this development, outdoor decks were located to the front of each unit to provide better aspect to local parks, better breeze access, good street activity and improved audible privacy from other units. The outdoor decks are crowned with a large wind scoop to improve ventilation and thermal comfort. The small front yards are designed to be an extension of the living space with the fencing designed as a mix of timber screen fencing and open pool fencing and placed to capitalise on privacy, street engagement and breeze access as appropriate to each unit location.
